FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have questions not seen on this page, please feel free to call or email us.
Our knowledgeable staff should be able to answer all of your questions.

My window has condensation between the panes and has become foggy. Do I have to replace the whole window?

No. You don’t always need to replace the entire window. The glass portion of your single or double pane windows can be replaced if it is broken or the seal is gone. If the window frame is in good condition, you can save money by keeping it. This is a simple process that is much more cost effective than replacing the entire window.

How long does it take to replace the windshield in my car or truck?

We require your vehicle for approximately 3-4 hours. It takes approximately 1-2 hours to install the new windshield, and 2 hours in order for the sealant to cure. Bring your vehicle and insurance papers to our office so we can get the paperwork started, order your windshield, and schedule your service.

If I have a rock chip on my windshield, can it be fixed or does the windshield have to be replaced?

We can repair a rock chip that is small – about the size of a dime as a general rule and only as long as it has not started to crack. Simply stop by and let one of our technicians have a look and see if it can be repaired. If the chip is larger, impairs your vision or has started to crack, the windshield should be replaced. Please note most rock chips do not disappear as is advertised on TV. Depending on the impact damage, some stone chips may look slightly better after the repair is done and only a small percentage will actually disappear. This service is to repair the chip and prevent the chip from cracking the windshield. ICBC does not cover the cost of a rock chip repair. However some private insurance companies do. If you have private insurance, please check with your insurance company before coming in.

Can I reduce the condensation on my windows?

Yes. In order to reduce condensation on your windows and in your home the humidity level must be controlled and air movement must be generated. We recommend the following:

  • Open curtains / blinds regularly to allow air flow to reach them.
  • Open a window slightly to air out your home for a few minutes each day if possible.
  • Use the exhaust fans in your kitchen and bathroom while cooking or showering.
  • Shut off humidifiers and other humidifying devices in your home during colder weather.
  • Use vapour barriers on the earth floor of your crawl space.

These should all help improve any condensation issue you may have, but do keep in mind it is normal for aluminum windows to sweat during different times of the year.

How long does it take to get windows if I order today?

Under normal circumstances, ordering residential windows takes approximately 3-4 weeks. If you are ordering just glass or sealed units for your existing windows, they usually take between 5-10 business days. Please note, the installation of both sealed units and windows are usually completed weather permitting. Special orders may take longer. Please speak with our sales staff for confirmation of delivery times.

What is a renovation style or rebate window?

Renovation style windows are inserted over an existing window – usually an aluminum or wood framed window. Everything except for the perimeter frame is removed, the new window is inserted over, and caulking is used to seal your new window to the old window. This type of window is very popular because you don’t have to remove any exterior siding or the inner linings and often only single moulding may be required on the inside of the window. This is a popular method because the time and cost of the labour is much less than installing a new nail-on window.

What is a nail-on window?

Nail-on or new construction windows are most commonly used on all new construction or where a window can be attached to the framing of your home. The original windows in your home are almost always nail-on frames where they are attached to the framing of your home through a nailing flange. Both types of windows have advantages and disadvantages. Please call our sales staff and they will be able to answer your questions and determine which style is best suited for your application.
